SENSEI RENE ZEELENBERG: SHICHIDAN

Rene Zeelenberg

Rene started his judo career in Holland. At the age of 14 his family moved to California and he continued to develop his judo at Gene LeBell’s dojo. He joined the military and was fortunate to be stationed in California and train under the guidance of Ben Campbell and Phil Porter. He has participated in numerous national and international tournaments including world championships and military world championships. His recent accomplishments are national master’s champion and world master’s gold medalist. His primary club function is the guidance of the adult program.

SENSEI EDDIE ELIZALDE: YODAN

Eddie Elizalde

Eddie started his judo career in Japan while stationed at Yokota AB. He was taught by the best. After his military career was over, he developed a program in San Antonio, second to none. His students included numerous national youth champions that included his two sons and daughter. His current interests, beside the Alamo Judo Club, now include the development of his two grand daughters. Eddie recently retired and devotes numerous hours developing local judokas on his own time. Eddie is a world masters silver medalist in the 60-64 age division. Eddie possesses a “killer” harai-goshi.

SENSEI CHARLES “CHUCK” HEROLD: YODAN

Charles "Chuck" Herold

Chuck started his judo after he obtained his black belt in Karate. Chuck is the foundation upon which the Alamo Judo Club has been built. He was instrumental in developing a club at Lackland AFB. Due to access difficulties he moved the club to the YMCA and eventually to the current location. He too has successfully participated in national and international events. He is solely responsible for the successful growth of our kids program. He is a certified coach as well as a certified referee.
